Given that the city’s first microbrewery opened only in 2013, the craft beer scene is still in a nascent stage in Mumbai. However, in just this short span of time, several other microbreweries have popped up around the city and the beers on offer span a range of flavours, textures and ingredients.

If you’re the sort who loves their hops served artisanal, you should consider a microbrewery pub crawl. And there’s no need for you to research any of this because we’ve put one together for you.

This is the #QueMag South Mumbai Microbrewery Pub-Crawl.

Rules:

  1. Hit every spot on this list in the order we’ve listed. You won’t regret it.
  2. You don’t want to get to one of these places and be left stranded, so call ahead and make reservations whenever possible.
  3. Have at least two beers at each spot. You’ve got to refuel before you hit the road.
  4. Do NOT drink and drive. Take a cab instead. If you’re feeling full of energy from all the delicious beer, you could even walk between the three microbreweries in Lower Parel.

Doolally Taproom, Kemps Corner

Where is it? 1st Floor, 135 Kwality House, August Kranti Marg, Above Hobby Ideas, Kemps Corner Flyover.

Phone: 9969360726

While Doolally’s Taproom technically doesn’t brew its beers on-site, they do get kegs full of the stuff from their flagship microbrewery in Pune. It’s a great place to go with a group if you want to spend the evening sipping on great brews and playing board games. This is their latest branch in the city (their third so far) which is testament to the quality of their beer and service.

Don’t miss: Coffee Porter, Hefeweizen.

British Brewing Company, Lower Parel

04 BBC mumbai microbrewery pubcrawl

Where is it? P4- P5, 4th Floor, Palladium, High Street Phoenix, Lower Parel.

Phone: 022 33126821

These guys take the British part of their name really seriously. Back in the day, a pub would be where people gathered to relax and unwind after a long day at work – it was the heart of the neighbourhood. That’s what they’re trying to recreate here – fashioned after a classic British pub, the place has a welcoming and warm atmosphere. If you’re a motorcycle fan, the BBC has one other thing going for it – it’s a shrine to the humble Café Racer, one of the most influential bikes ever made.

Don’t miss: Apple Cider.

The Barking Deer Brewpub, Lower Parel

Where is it? Mathuradas Mill Compound, Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel.

Phone: 022 30151377

The daddy of Mumbai microbreweries, Barking Deer was the first to open its doors to the public. Over the years, they’ve ensured that people keep coming back by reinventing themselves and adding more events to the week. If you can’t think of something to do after work, you can be sure that the Deer already has something great lined up. In fact, if you head over before the end of this month, you can still participate in Barktoberfest – their very own version of the Oktoberfest.

Don’t miss: Flying Pig Belgian Wit, Bombay Blonde.

The White Owl – Brewery & Bistro, Lower Parel

Where is it? Lobby, Tower 2 B, One Indiabulls Center, Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel.

Phone: 022 33126124

Home to the quirkiest beer mugs in the city, White Owl is the city’s not-so-microbrewery. Their lovely ambience and staff that’s eager to help make this one of the nicest places to hang out with friends or even colleagues from work. Be warned, however, that it’s more expensive than the other microbreweries on our list, but it’s worth it in the end. And in case you’re hungry, we highly recommend the Popcorn Chicken – it’s unlike anything you’ve eaten before.

Don’t miss: The Diablo, The Halcyon.

Note: In case you live in town, here’s a way to go about this pub-crawl so that you end up close to home. Start at Doolally’s Taproom in Bandra and once you’re done there, take the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. All you have to do after that is make your way through this list in reverse order.
