Getting a water purifier is only one step towards safeguarding your loved ones and yourself from harmful diseases. Like most machines and devices, water purifiers also require maintenance to perform in their optimal condition. The only difference? Lack of maintenance here will directly impact your health and that of the people around you.
While a water filter might seem like a very simple machine, things get quite complex when you look inside. To understand that, here's a quick walk-through
of the different technologies found in water-purifiers. Consequently, there are a lot of things that can go wrong and compromise the purity of your drinking water unless you know how to maintain your purifier.
To keep your purifier at the top of its game, here are some tips that you ought to follow.
Change the water filter
Purifiers make use of multiple filters to clean and purify water. Over time, these filters become less efficient at cleaning as they start getting clogged with impurities. Hence, it’s important to change these filters regularly for optimal purification of water. Sediment filters need to be changed every three months while carbon filters need to be changed at least once a year.
RO Membrane Replacement
Reverse Osmosis Membrane
The RO membrane is a semi-permeable membrane that helps in purifying water with high dissolvable solids. Over time, these dissolved solids start clogging the membrane and impact the quality of water. So, if the water starts smelling foul, it might mean that it’s time to change the RO membrane.
Fix drips & leakages
Drips & leakages need to be fixed as soon as possible. If leaks aren’t fixed, there is a possibility of moss formation in hard-to-reach places. Additionally, leaks and drips lead to wastage of water and might even expose the drinking water to contaminants.
Sanitize RO tank
While replacing the filters, it’s highly recommended to also clean the pipes and sanitize the RO tank. Doing so will clean the water purifier of any contaminants that may have stagnated in the system. Also, this will help increase the life of the filters as contaminants won’t affect their performance and wear them down.
Change the UV lamp
Industrial installation for UV water purification
UV water purifiers have become increasingly common and are very helpful in killing germs and microbes. But UV lamps, deteriorate over time. These lamps solarise over time which reduces the intensity of the UV light by 60% over time. If you use your water purifier continuously for over a year, you should consider changing your UV lamp.
Keep your water purifier's exteriors clean
While keeping the exterior clean of the water purifier doesn’t necessarily affect the water purifier’s performance, it’s always a good idea to clean the water purifier thoroughly. And if your water purifier has a tap, make sure to clean it every day since it’s exposed to germs and bacteria in the air.
These tips, when followed regularly, should keep your water purifier working in optimal conditions. Apart from these tips, it’s always recommended to have your water purifier serviced by professionals. After all, you wouldn’t want to risk your health over something that is an easy fix.
