I’m not entirely sure why I’ve been put in charge of writing this article, but I suspect it’s a prank from everyone on the Que team. You see, I know very little about fashion. In fact, my entire wardrobe consists of shirts and pants, along with a few t-shirts and shorts. There’s also a suit that I break out for weddings where I’m ushered out of the photos so that better-dressed people can strut their stuff. I’ve never been particularly trendy but I know what I like when I see it.
So here’s my take on what the stars of the Indian film industry wore for the IIFA 2016 weekend in Madrid:
When I started writing this article, I was worried I’d be at a total loss for words. I feared that I would come across as a complete sham. That fear, however, was quickly dismissed by the arrival of Neha Dhupia. I may not know fashion, but I know my Star Wars and Neha was rocking the Jedi look like a true “Force” to be reckoned with.
Just when I learned fancy fashion words such as ‘chic’ and ‘sartorial’, Deepika decided to turn up in her pyjamas. I know these award shows can be dreadfully boring, but if the people who are part of it aren’t psyched, what’s the point? That aside, those pyjamas were a chic sartorial choice.
Celebrities get a lot of flak for being perceived as extremely selfish. But not Elli Avram! There’s something very assuring in knowing that she cared about me (and others like me) enough to hunt down my greatest fear—snakes—and turn their skin into a dress.
When I saw this dress, I knew exactly what the problem was. Washing machine lint. I, too, suffer from this problem on a regular basis and a lint roller has saved my wardrobe. It might take a while to get all that lint off, but it’ll be worth it, Athiya.
Sayani Gupta has stormed onto the scene and that may be because she’s so incredibly talented. With this dress she showed off her insane origami skills and made me feel bad about the fact that I can only make origami squares and triangles. The only problem, however, is that she had to keep her arms pinned to her side or her top would begin peeling off.
Nargis Fakhri and I had the same thing on our minds throughout the weekend – the Game of Thrones season finale. This blue number with the flames on her sleeves is an homage to A Song of Ice and Fire and a declaration of her love for reading. Good on you, Nargis, don’t ever let them tell you that reading is just for nerds. Also, Mom, if you’re reading this – I told you that flames on clothes were a great idea! I’ll never forgive you for throwing away my black shirt with the flames all over.
Deepika Padukone (again)
Riveting! Chic! Sartorial! Black! Neckline!
