When the part of your job description includes scouring through fashion blogs, you become a pro at forecasting trends. To make sure we're well-equipped for spring, we decided to have a chat with the experts. Indian fashion editors gave us a lowdown on the styles, trends and silhouettes dominating their closets this season.

Modern Styled Kurtas

"This spring summer, I am embracing the simple kurta and styling it in different ways with ankle pants, sneakers, cool sandals and a printed bandi jacket. A lot of homegrown brands are doing super cool and modernised versions of the kurta - denim kurtas, kurta tees, linen kurtas and funky printed kurtas. I think kurtas for sure for Indian men, worn with modern styling techniques are going to be one of the biggest trends this season. Also, the floral print is taking over. You're going to be seeing it in floral shirts, shoes and accessories too."

Supporting Local Designers

"Summertime is an opportunity to start afresh, to simplify, a time to Marie Kondo the wardrobe and self. We are looking at a time that's referencing trends from the past while keeping up with the awareness of today, environmental impact has got the second most polluting industry i.e fashion to rethink, recycle, up-cycle, reuse, and innovate. I am looking forward to re-purposing old pieces from the wardrobe, to wear Indian textiles and support the Indian weavers and local designers. To reinforce clothing that brings out my individuality, trends that are aligned with my personality, and the last thing that never fades -- good old minimalism."

Pastels and Co-ordinates

This Summer, the focus is on keeping things comfortable yet stylish. A wardrobe staple for me is a vintage white shirt paired with a boyfriend denim and some chunky gold jewellery. Co-ordinates are big this season so you’ll be seeing me in oversized linen suits that can even be worn as separates. Summer is all about playful pastels, so you’ll be seeing a lot of lilacs, mint green, aqua...The new year is all about upcycling and sustainability; it’s about re-imagining your wardrobe and styling it differently. Invest in versatile accessories like a broad waist belt that can be thrown over just about anything to transform the look. When it comes to bags, focus on timeless styles that transcend seasons.

Orange and Safari

“I’m really looking to wear lots of orange this time. This colour is going to be a favourite this summer. I also love bra tops and bralettes. We've seen them in popular collections worldwide. It’s a very versatile piece to wear especially for summer and since I live in Delhi, it’s an ideal pick for the weather. In terms of accessories, I love the fact that oversized bags are a major trend. Also foldable clutches and bags which we saw last year are making a comeback in interesting shapes, colours and sizes which are really cool to carry around. I love the fact that safari is still in. We don’t seem to be getting bored of the print. Apart from pastel colours, I also think olive green and darker shades in metallics will be trending. It’s kind of changing the game.”

Statement Sleeves and Prints

"The three things that I think will dominate this summer in fashion and will be a part of my wardrobe are puffed sleeves, structured shoulders and bright prints on bright prints."
