Athleisure has gone mainstream over the last few seasons, and we’re seeing it’s influences everywhere, even on the ramp.
In fact according to a Euromonitor report released in the first half of the year, the sportswear was a segment leader in the global apparel and footwear industry in 2016, with market growth valued at $76 billion. And while the industry, as a whole, grew just 4% last year (yes, there was a slowdown), the sportswear market grew by 7%.
Racing ahead, more and more premium activewear and sportswear brands are creating collections that bare the imprint of sports stars’ own takes on style and functionality.
DC Shoe Co, the California-based company that specialises in shoes for action sports, has worked with SK8 Mafia and Tiago Lemos to produce to new collections. And both have been brought to India this Autumn/Winter.
DC X SK8Mafia
The collab with Wes Kremer and Alexis Ramirez, ‘San Diego’s crustiest skate crew’ (says DC), features a range of clothes and, of course, shoes.
The new Wes Kremer 2 x SK8 Mafia pro model shoes – this is Kremer’s second pro model – have suede uppers layered with crackle leather, and are designed as slip-ons. They’re supported by DC’s IMPACT-S custom insole for extra protection; and come with additional lacing for added support. Another extra is the high abrasion screen print on the vamp. The black colour gives it a decidedly ‘street’ edge.
DC X Tiago Lemos
The second pro model shoe has been designed in partnership with Lemos, the Brazilian skating powerhouse.
Called the Tiago S, this pro model is designed specifically for a technical and heavy-impact style of skating, such as Lemos’.
The Tiago S shoes are made from DC’s Super Suede material, which features prominently on the upper, the tongue is a Jacquard-style mesh, which allows for breathability, while the EVA midsole has a medIal heel stabilizer. This shoe comes with DC’s IMPACT-A heel cushioning technology, and the OrthoLite Sockline, which give extra support and comfort. It’s available is brown and black.
So what’s your pick?
