You may have missed tulip season but Srinagar has a lot more to offer in the summer months. The natural beauty here is at its peak during summer, when its tourist spots, such as Dal Lake and Mughal Gardens overflow with flowers and greenery. Stay out late without worrying about the cold, and absorb as much local culture as possible.


Another favourite destination during the scorching summer months, Coorg is the go-to place for nature and adventure lovers during the hot months of April and May. Driving around Coorg during offers the unparalleled chance to brush past spice and coffee plantations that have bloomed recently. Sikkim is the perfect summer retreat for those tired of a hectic lifestyle. The state offers you the chance to take it nice and easy as you sip on the world-class teas from this region. Summer offers a chance to go on day treks to mountain ranges which are otherwise buried under snow. Don’t forget to visit Rumtek Monastery and Tsogmo Lake, set against a backdrop of the mighty Himalayas.


A stunning sunrise at Tiger Hill will forever remain etched in your memory. This is also the season when the hill station is covered with rhododendrons and magnolias.  Even the historic toy train ride is best experienced during summer when greenery lines the route. Consider taking a detour and head to the Dooars region to end your Darjeeling trip on a high.

The Andamans

Visiting the Andamans during summer is a great idea – for one, there’s absolutely no chance of encountering the cyclones which otherwise besiege the islands. Spotting corals and other fishes while scuba diving is more likely as the sea temperature won’t be too low during the hot months. Temperatures are slightly high in comparison to other seasons, but travelling here in the summer means you don’t have to worry about running into the honeymoon groups and tour packages that flock to the Andamans during the rest of the year.

Munnar is the place to be if you’re looking for an idyllic weekend spent cycling around tea estates, taking small treks at nearby attractions and looking to unwind in peace. The hill station boasts of cooler climes because of its altitude and is especially attractive to tea lovers during summer, when they can visit tea plantations with certified guides and be assured of getting the best prices. Trekking to Anamudi, the highest peak in the Western Ghats, is a popular activity for adventurous travellers.


If it’s good enough for the Dalai Lama, then Tawang will be good enough for us. Located at the edge of eastern India and closed during winter, when crossing the Sela Pass becomes treacherous, Tawang is a great summer destination. From the famed Tawang Monastery to the various war memorials dotting the region, there is no shortage when it comes to attractions. If you’re into trekking, there’s no better time to explore the surrounding hills.
