Yeah, we get it. Life can become mundane. It’s very normal to feel like you’re stuck in a rut, where your life is following the same pattern for the past few years. You wake up and go to the same gym with the same people, have the same kind of breakfast, go to the same old job with the same old colleagues, come back and do the same things – watch some TV, read a book and go to sleep – only to awaken and start the same routine again the next day. It can cause even the most laidback of us to get bored and feel dull. But you don’t have to do this. With a few small changes (or one big one), you can make life more interesting and adventurous on a daily basis. If your New Year’s resolution was to infuse more fun into your life, this is for you.

“Adventure could mean going off the beaten path and creating a different perception of an experience that already exists, as well as making new motivations to experience something that hasn’t been experienced before,” says life coach Ramona Mordecai.

Infuse Some Adventure Into A Daily Routine

Explains Mordecai, “Sometimes in a single day we have about 10 separate tasks to complete. And if these tasks are fulfilled as a routine, on a daily basis, and in the same manner, then the adventure in fulfilling a task dies and the experience becomes mundane and ordinary. In order to keep the adventure alive while doing tasks, you must find solutions to do them differently. For example, if you have to run errands to buy your groceries and then complete a workout in the gym, try walking to your grocer and carrying your groceries back home. This way, you bridge the possibilities of fulfilling both tasks and therefore create a more functional experience which is more adventurous. It’s good to make a list of the tasks at hand a day before you have to complete them. Then, the next morning when you open your checklist ask yourself how you can connect all your tasks together by involving yourself more into the experience of completing them.”

Redecorate Your House

You don’t have to spend a lot of money doing it, but by changing up the furniture or simply moving it around you will feel a change around you and keep your mind positively occupied. If you’ve always been drawn to simple, subtle colours, go bold by painting a wall red or incorporating some modern art into your home. A change in scene will automatically make you feel less mundane.

Do What You’ve Always Wanted To

If you’ve been feeling uninspired and bored for a while, chances are you need to shake up more than just your home. This is the time to do what you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t because you’ve been held back due to circumstance. Always wanted to live abroad? Do it. Want to quit your job and find something more stimulating? Do it. Trust us, the results will ultimately be worth it.

Learn Something New

Whether it’s just a hobby or a course that will help you change careers, learn something new that you love. You never know where it could lead. Writes entrepreneur and writer Mo Seetubtim in the Huffington Post, “Not only is a new hobby another way to add more joy and fun into your life, it can also make life feel more exciting with the new challenges you have to face. Plus, by breaking out of your comfort zone and achieving new goals, you will gain self-confidence and feel proud of yourself. You will meet new people who are passionate about different things than your old peers (are passionate about). This is probably the key turning point when the new interest might shed light on something. The new friends you make might give you a new perspective on life and living. The things you didn’t think were beautiful before are now seen as beautiful in your eyes.”

Travel (Or At Least Plan It)

Going to a new place and seeking new adventures is exciting for everyone. Besides, travel opens your mind and inspires your senses. If you don’t have the means, at least plan your perfect trip and what all you’ll do there – just researching, planning and dreaming can give you a boost and build excitement for the time when you can afford to go. If you don’t have a big budget, go on a backpacking trip to South-East Asia. The new culture, climate, people and food are guaranteed to infuse excitement and add adventure to your life. Remember that you’ll never tell your grandchildren stories about your boring job, but you’ll always tell them about your travels and experiences.

Get A Makeover

If you want to stay put but also want a change from routine, get a makeover and change your look. Get a brand-new haircut, learn how to do your make-up professionally, buy new clothes in styles you previously haven’t experimented with, and get a photoshoot. This will liven up your daily routine and infuse adventure into your life.

Experiment With Your Sex Life

Change your positions and locations to completely transform your experience. Go to a secluded beach, join the mile-high club or simply check into a fancy hotel room for the weekend.

Make New Friends And Meet New People

Many a time, the source of our boredom is also because of the (same) people around us. That’s not to say they are bad – just that you require a new set to hang around with for new exchanges of thoughts and ideas. Writes Seetubtim, “Sometimes, our friends don’t inspire us or make us feel excited about life. They live a mundane life. They have no ambitions. They are happy with their routines. We are only going to be as successful as the people we surround ourselves with. If we keep hanging out with the average Joe, we will become an average Joe. If we hang out with people who are passionate about their lives, we will be affected by their infectious energy and enthusiasm and feel inspired. If we hang out with smart people, we will learn a lot from them.” Making new friends can transform you and lead you towards a more adventurous life.
