Ever since Samsung showed the world how phones could be made more immersive by using edge-to-edge wider screen displays, other OEMs took no time to jump on the bandwagon too. Even the iPhone X was built to transcend the big bezels on its predecessors, the iPhone 8 & the 8 Plus. “For more than a decade, our intention has been to create an iPhone that’s all display, a physical object that disappears into the experience,” said Jony Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, in a product video for the iPhone X.

Wider screens offer more screen real-estate in the same-size package, hence increasing visual aid and immersion. Pushing bezels to the edges has been the sole aim for smartphone manufacturers in 2018. Thanks to that, we have a whole new range of phones with wider displays to choose from at different price points. Let’s look at some of the best from the lot:

Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung’s S9 houses a display which is arguably the best in the world right now. The wide 5.8-inch QuadHD sAMOLED display offers unmatched colour, accuracy and vibrancy. The S9 features variable aperture (the first on a phone) which helps in ensuring great low-light performance. Overall, the phone boasts of excellent camera performance. The phone is also no slouch when it comes to day-to-day performance. Thanks to its fine-tuned Exynos 9810 processor, it flies through everything that is thrown at it with buttery smoothness.

Also true to the 2018 trend, the phone supports face unlock (it has a fingerprint sensor too) via its 24MP front camera.
